If you are interested in growing garlic outside, the best time to grow garlic is in Fall. It takes 8 to 9 months to harvest garlic since planting.

Jag Singh from Daisy Creek Farms has a very complete 8 minutes informative video that he filmed it over 9 months that goes from selecting the starting cloves, the soil that is needed, plating, care and harvesting. The garlic should be planted 2 inches deep and 6 inches apart and if you start the planting in fall you should add grass or dead leaves on top of the soil to protect the new plants from the frost in winter.
